OUR STORY
Maria Vega is a curator, gallerist, collector, and the founder of Ministry of Nomads and the M.O.N. Art Foundation, dedicated to supporting artists and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration. With a background in art and journalism, she has built an international platform that connects art, science, and activism.
Her journey into the art world was shaped by her extensive travels, where exposure to diverse cultures and artistic traditions deepened her commitment to using art as a platform for dialogue and exploration. In 2008, this vision materialized with the founding of Ministry of Nomads. Based in London and operating globally, the initiative blends commercial, educational, and philanthropic endeavors to support artists and engage audiences in meaningful ways.
Vega has long championed the voices of emerging and outsider artists, with a particular focus on those engaging with climate change and environmental themes. Through the M.O.N. Art Foundation, she has spearheaded initiatives that elevate underrepresented artists on an international stage. One of the foundation’s key projects is the Emerging Bolivian Artist Award, launched in 2015 in collaboration with the Bolivian Embassy in London and supported by The Falcone Foundation. This award grants emerging Bolivian artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in London, expanding their reach and impact.
As a curator, Vega is known for transforming non-traditional spaces into immersive art experiences, reimagining historic buildings, abandoned sites, and outdoor landscapes as dynamic exhibition spaces. Through Ministry of Nomads, she has curated a range of exhibitions, performances, and discussions, positioning art as a catalyst for dialogue and exploration.
Most recently, she curated and produced Chronos, a Venice Biennale satellite exhibition at St. George’s Anglican Church, featuring ten monumental oil paintings by Maria Kreyn. Set against the backdrop of Venice—a city both steeped in history and on the frontlines of climate change—the exhibition challenged viewers to reflect on creation, destruction, and rebirth, mirroring our fragile relationship with the Earth.
With a global perspective and an innovative approach, Vega continues to bridge disciplines, cultures, and ideas, ensuring that art remains a force for awareness, transformation, and impact and amplifying voices that challenge and inspire.
